How will Daylight Savings Time affect my timeclock?

Time Concepts

For Daylight Savings Time, our smart kiosk push clocks change time at 2:00 AM both to start DST in the spring and to end DST in the fall.

Spring

When the automatic time change occurs at the clock, a third shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) employee working over the spring time change actually works one hour less than their punch times would lead you to believe.  Consider that at 2:00 AM the clock jumps ahead by one hour to 3:00 AM.  The employee did not work an hour between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM, because no time elapses during the time change.  If the employee were to punch out when the clock reads 7:00 AM, then the employee would have worked only seven hours.  To compensate for this problem, the software deducts one hour from the total when an employee works across the spring time change.  So, while on any other day 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM is eight hours, on the day of the spring time change, it is seven hours.  For this third shift employee to work eight hours on this particular day, they would need to punch out at 8:00 AM.

Fall

When the automatic time change occurs at the clock, a third shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM) employee working over the fall time change actually works one hour more than their punch times would lead you to believe.  Consider that at 2:00 AM the clock falls back one hour to 1:00 AM.  The employee works from 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM a second time.  If the employee were to punch out when the clock reads 7:00 AM, then the employee would have worked nine hours.  To compensate for this problem, the software adds one hour to the total when an employee works across the fall time change.  So, while on any other day 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM is eight hours, on the day of the fall time change it is nine hours.  For this third shift employee to work eight hours on this particular day, they would need to punch out at 6:00 AM.
